Welcome to Year 6! We are so excited for this significant summer term together as we prepare for the transition to high school. This term is crucial for fostering independence and resilience, and our aim is to encourage confidence while equipping each child with the essential learning skills necessary to progress through school and beyond.

In our warm and open environment, we will explore a wide variety of topics, with our current theme being “I wonder what makes an animal powerful, strange or deadly.” Students will delve deeply into different habitats, investigating various animals both living and extinct and discussing the reasons behind extinction. This inquiry will spark curiosity and foster critical thinking skills, as students learn to ask questions, seek answers, and engage in meaningful discussions about the natural world.

On Thursday afternoons, we have our Forest School sessions, where children will learn essential survival skills such as lighting fires, building dens, and understanding the importance of respecting nature. These activities will focus on science and health and wellbeing, allowing students to connect with nature in a hands-on way while developing teamwork and problem-solving skills. Additionally, our PE sessions will be held on Thursdays, promoting physical fitness, teamwork, and the importance of a healthy lifestyle.

Our class also runs a shop where students sell snacks to their peers, raising funds for our end-of-year prom. This initiative not only teaches students about entrepreneurship and financial literacy but also fosters a sense of community and responsibility. Furthermore, we operate the school radio, providing regular announcements, including our lunchtime Welsh session at 12:00 each day, which helps to promote our cultural heritage and language skills.

We look forward to the rest of a fantastic year filled with learning, growth, and fun in a supportive atmosphere! Together, we will create lasting memories and develop the skills necessary for future success.
