Welcome to Dosbarth Usk - Croeso i Dosbarth Usk.
In Dosbarth Usk we strive to make everyone feel welcome and valued. We grow strong, curious and creative minds with a positive growth mindset and we develop our independence ready for PS3.
We develop academically through a varied curriculum at Llandough Primary School. We teach creative, interactive lessons involving language, literacy and communication (Cymraeg and Spanish), mathematics and numeracy, science and technology, health and wellbeing, humanities and expressive arts.
These rich learning experiences allow each child to progress into:
● Ambitious, capable learners,
● Enterprising, creative contributors,
● Ethical informed citizens and
● Healthy, confident individuals.
We have an abundance of outdoor space and it is used to support learning. Activities are set up outside to reinforce learning and help develop independence, ready for the transition into PS3.
In literacy we read in groups during GGR everyday where every child in the group is reading the same text. We also read novels together as a class. We have a spelling pattern that is learnt each week through phonics lessons, weekly spelling tests supported through EdShed and also in our handwriting lessons.
In maths we use the CPA approach: Concrete, Pictorial and Abstract - This simply means that at the start of a topic the children use real-objects to support learning, as they develop the objects are replaced with pictures and then when confident we move onto the abstract where written methods are used to solve problems.
Our current inquiry Question is “How do I use levers to make moving pictures?”. It is from the Science and Technology area of learning. We will learn how to build simple mechanisms using levers and then incorporate them into a picture to make a part of it move.
